Since its inception in 1982, the hope for this race by founders Dave Coombs Sr. and Paul Shlegel was to hold a championship amateur motocross race that was fair, safe and fun for all the riders and their families. A nationwide qualifying system ensures equal representation from all parts of the country. A track raced only one time a year ensures that no one will have a chance to ride or race on it before the rest of the competition arrives.

The AMA Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships have become the premiere amateur national series in the United States, and the proving grounds for America’s future professional Supercross and Motocross heroes.

August 3 - August 8, 2009

The AMA Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch only takes one week, but that one week will create a lifetime of memories for those who attend. From the moment you leave your driveway, to pulling through the front gates of the facility, all the way down to your last moto and the closing ceremonies, you’ll feel a certain magic that follows every step of racing at the Ranch.

But what exactly happens during the week? Let us explain.

The week really begins on the weekend, with most racers moving in on the Friday or Saturday before racing begins. Loretta Lynn Ranch is open year-round, however, so you are welcome to move in as early as you would like - you’ll just pay the Ranch camping fee for any days prior to move-in day. However, if you did not win the RV hook-up lottery, you will not be allowed to purchase a hook-up.

Friday and Saturday are used to park thousands of racers and their rigs around the spacious ranch. When you pull in to the ranch, check in at the front gate to receive your Facility Permit. MX Sports staff members will then direct you to the proper areas on the property. Those lucky enough to win hook-ups in the hook-up lottery will be directed to a hook-up spot. Don’t worry, we have attendants in every camping area to assist you with your move-in process.

Rider Registration opens on Sunday at the Amsoil Arena. Since all racers are essentially pre-entered, Rider Registration is used only to confirm your attendance and racing number, and present you a complimentary rider packet. That packet includes a free event souvenir program, which lists everything you need to know about the Ranch, including race and special event schedules, rider entry and number lists, and plenty of facts and trivia about racing at the ranch.

Best of all, at Rider Registration you will pick up your coveted Race Bib.

We usually host a variety of activities on Sunday so the natives don’t get restless-from church services to golf cart parades. Whatever you do, don’t think about riding your motorcycle on Sunday. Bikes won’t hit the track until Monday, practice day.

We will post the assigned practice schedule on MXSports.com at least 10 days before the race. That practice schedule will also be listed at Rider Registration. The top five Alternate riders in each class will be eligible to practice, and the list will be updated and posted daily at the ranch and on MXSports.com.

Follow the practice order and learn the track as best as you can on Monday, because it will be the only practice day of the week. Starting Tuesday morning, you can set your watch to the motos, with racing taking place on schedule all day long. (Barring any inclement weather conditions or unforseen circumstances) Each class gets three motos, which means you’ll have some in the morning, some in the afternoon and some later in the day. The track will be rougher than you can imagine, the heat and humidity will be tougher than anything else you have ever faced, and the competition will be fierce.

But the memories you make all week long will be the best you’ve ever had, too. Be sure to join in on all the Special Events hosted throughout the week, including talent shows, concerts and special appearances by the biggest names in the sport.

Soak it all up and enjoy every minute. You’ll never forget your week at the Loretta Lynn Ranch.

The Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America has announced the coast-to-coast route for its 15th annual motorcycle ride, to take place May 8 – 17. NASCAR driver and Charity Ride founder Kyle Petty will lead a field of more than 200 riders as they wind their way from the Pacific Northwest to the East Coast in an effort to raise awareness of and funds for Victory Junction and other children’s charities.

Riders will depart from Stevenson, Wash., on May 8, making overnight stops in Richland, Wash.; Sun Valley, Idaho; Park City, Utah; Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Hays, Kan.; Kansas City, Mo.; Batesville, Ark.; and Nashville, Tenn., before reaching Greensboro, N.C., on May 16.

Since the Charity Ride’s inception in 1995, 6,100 participants have logged more than 7.9 million cumulative motorcycle miles and donated more than $12 million to Victory Junction and other charities that support chronically ill children. Petty and his wife, Pattie, opened Victory Junction in Randleman, N.C., in 2004. The year-round camp serves children, ages 6 to 16, whose health issues would typically prevent them from attending camp.

The camp operates solely on the donations of corporations, organizations and individuals. Campers attend at no cost to their families, and transportation costs are covered, if needed. The Pettys are planning a ceremonial groundbreaking on a second Victory Junction in Kansas City, Kan., during the Ride’s stop there on May 13.

“This is a big year for the Charity Ride family,” said Petty. “Not only are we celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Ride, we’re also breaking ground on a second Victory Junction that will provide life-changing opportunities for even more deserving children and their families. Pattie and I can’t wait to hit the road with our fellow riders, sponsors and fans. It is going to be great fun, a real adventure.”

Chick-fil-A President and Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy will join Petty on the nine-day Charity Ride. This year marks Chick-fil-A’s sixth year as the event’s title sponsor.

“I’ve been honored to be a part of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride for the last five years and to see up close the impact the Ride has on the organizations and children it supports,” Cathy said. “Chick-fil-A is proud to be associated with such a worthy cause, and I’m looking forward to another rewarding Ride.”

The Ride will conclude with a visit to Victory Junction in Randleman, N.C., on May 17. Prior to the Charity Ride’s start, the public is invited to raise support through the Charity Ride Dream Team Challenge, which invites individuals to form “Dream Teams” to raise money and awareness for the Ride’s cause. Dream Teams’ efforts are celebrated at the Ride’s major stops. In 2008, donations from The Dream Team Challenge totaled more than $40,000. For more information or to register for a Dream Team, visit www.kylepettycharityride.com.

Fans and spectators along the Charity Ride route may also contribute to Victory Junction through the Charity Ride’s “Small Change. Big Impact.” program, which accepts donations at pit stop locations. As a result of the 2008 Charity Ride’s efforts, more than 350 children will attend a five-day session free of charge.

Additional sponsors of the 2009 Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America include Coca-Cola, Pilot Travel Centers LLC, Racing Electronics, Wincraft Racing and FLUIDYNE Racing Products.

About The Kyle Petty Charity Ride

Led by NASCAR driver Kyle Petty, The Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America raises awareness of and funds for Victory Junction and other charities supporting chronically ill children. The Charity Ride is one of the most successful and popular charity events in NASCAR. Now in its 15th year, the Charity Ride has donated more than $12 million to children’s charities, with 6,100 participants logging more than 7.9 million cumulative motorcycle miles. In 2009, NASCAR celebrities, ride sponsors and motorcycle enthusiasts will travel from Stevenson, Wash. to Greensboro, N.C. from May 8-17. www.kylepettycharityride.com

About Victory Junction

Victory Junction is a year-round camping environment for children ages six to 16 with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. Founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty in honor of their son Adam, the camp is located in Randleman, N.C., with a second location opening soon in Kansas City, Kan. Victory Junction offers programs for 24 disease groups and maintains strong relationships with 26 partner hospitals. Victory Junction’s mission is to provide life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun and empowering, in a safe and medically-sound environment. As a not-for-profit organization, the camp operates solely through the support of generous donors to provide this experience at no charge to children and their families. www.victoryjunction.org

About Chick-fil-A, Inc.

Celebrating its 42nd year in business, Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc., is the nation’s second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain (based on sales), with more than 1,425 restaurants in 38 states and Washington, D.C. In 2008, Chick-fil-A reported system-wide sales of $2.9 billion, representing a 12.17 percent increase over the chain’s 2007 overall sales performance and a strong same-store sales increase of 4.59 percent. Chick-fil-A’s record sales performance marked the chain’s 41st consecutive year of system-wide sales gains.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA — Thunder Run V, Oklahoma’s premier annual motorcycle and entertainment event that benefits Oklahomans with multiple sclerosis, will take place April 3rd through 5th, 2009, at OKC Thunder Cycles, 900 West Memorial Road in Oklahoma City. This year’s free event will feature Indianapolis 500 racing legend Al Unser, as well as returning emcee Brett

“The Big Schwag” Wagner from Speed Channel’s popular show, “Pass Time”.

Thunder Run V’s highlights include a poker run, one of the Unser family’s Indy 500 winning cars, a vintage bike show, the Go Fast “Jet Pack Man” who rockets through the air, Team Extreme motorcycle stunts, Dale Earnhardt’s Speedway car, an interactive NASCAR simulator, a variety of food booths, and top-notch music entertainment during all three days of the event. Raffle tickets will be sold for $10.00 each before and during Thunder Run V for a chance to win a Big Dog Coyote motorcycle and trailer valued at over $32,000.00.

All proceeds from the Big Dog raffle go directly to The MS Bridge, a local

non-profit organization with a mission to raise funds and connect Oklahoma multiple sclerosis patients in financial need to medications and many other resources that could improve or help maintain a high quality of life. Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance at OKC Thunder Cycles or on-line at www.MSBridge.org.

The poker run is organized by Downed Bikers Association and will be held on Sunday morning, April 5th. Participants will gather at Thunder Roadhouse Café, which is adjacent to OKC Thunder Cycles. Eric Miller, owner of the café and co-organizer of the event, announced “Once again, the café will be offering breakfast beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning before the poker run starts, and will also be serving our normal food and beverage menu throughout the entire event”.

The poker run event is named “Lessie’s Run”, in honor of Lessie Wills, the late wife of Thunder Run co-organizer and OKC Thunder Cycles general manager, Sam Wills. Lessie passed away about six months after Thunder Run I in November of 2005.

“Lessie would be overjoyed to see that Thunder Run has grown into such a tremendously popular and meaningful event in just five short years”, Wills remarked. “Thunder Run was all her idea,” he explained. “Having struggled with MS for years, she knew how costly treatments could be. But she also knew that the motorcycle community that she loved so dearly is made up of some of the kindest, most big-hearted people you’ll ever meet. So, she came up with the idea for this event that would directly benefit MS patients who need help with the high cost of treatments.”

Al Unser has also been impacted by Multiple Sclerosis. His older brother Louie had MS, and died from complications resulting from the disease.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Thunder Run V,” Mr. Unser said. “I can’t think of a better use of my time than to be in the company of people who use their love of motorcycles to help those with MS.”

Frank Eskridge, owner of OKC Thunder Cycles and principal organizer of the event added, “We appreciate our presenting sponsors Remington Park and Pacifico Beer, and media partners KRXO-FM and Cox Communications for helping us make Thunder Run V possible.” Eskridge added that the combined monies raised for The MS Bridge from Thunder Run I, II, III, and IV combined were over $163,000.00, and the goal set for this year is $75,000.00

Kelly Brown, director of The MS Bridge, remarked, “Thunder Run has been the major contributor to The MS Bridge for the past four years. We are truly overwhelmed by the generosity of the motorcycle community and others who have attended this event and helped so many Oklahomans who have Multiple Sclerosis”.

Wills concluded, “We believe that Thunder Run is a very positive way to respond to the present economy. What better way to deal with these times than by attending a fun, free, weekend that helps support those in need?”
